Steel shed kit sets are designed to be erected by a reasonably competent builder. As the majority of components are cut to length with pre-punched bolt holes, you save time and there is less chance of things going wrong. So how do you go about building a shed?
The shed kit set will be delivered to site. If you are building a shed yourself you will have received plans and a Bill of Materials (BOM) itemising every component supplied and what it is used for.
After checking everything off against the BOM, the portal frames are assembled on the ground by bolting together the rafters and columns using structural bolts, haunch brackets and apex brackets. If knee and apex braces are required these will also be fitted.
Column base cleats get dynabolted onto the concrete foundations of the shed, making it easy to align the columns. In most situations there is no need to set hold down brackets into the concrete, however this will be determined by our engineer.
The assembled portal frames are lifted into place. Depending on the size of the shed, a hiab or crane may be required to do this. The columns are securely bolted to the base cleats and braced. As the second and subsequent portals are stood, purlins and girts will be attached to support the portals and begin connecting the whole frame together.
Once all the portals are standing, the remaining purlins and wall girts can be Tek-screwed into place, strap bracing and door jambs installed.
Now its time to install any required netting into the roof before attaching the wall cladding and roofing along with any lining paper. Next the doors and aluminium joinery are fitted, along with corner flashings, barges, gutters etc. Your new shed is now complete.

"Our multi-purpose shed was a challenging build and Waikato Sheds did a first class job of it.
Their attention to detail and quality of workmanship was really good. Nothing was too much trouble." Read more...
